Car hire companies can be found inside the FCO airport terminal building.

Their offices are located in the pedestrian tunnels linking the air terminal to levels B and C of the Multi-storey car park. They are easy to reach from the domestic arrivals area, which is very well signposted:

When you come out of customs with your luggage in the Rome airport you are on the International Arrivals level - ground floor. There are only a few signs for car rentals and they point you to escalators that take you to the top level of the airport.

  • The car rental office is in the parking garage, across a roadway from the airport. Do not attempt to get there from the ground level - use the walkway that goes to the 4th floor (otherwise you really get lost - we learned this first hand). From the airport upper level, you walk through a tube-like covered walkway to an intersection of walkways. The car rental office is in one of these intersections. There should be signs. If you take the elevators, the walkway from the elevator takes you directly to the car rental office.

    - EuropCar, Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, Maggiore, National, etc.

If you have your luggage on a luggage cart you will want to find the elevators. To find the elevators: facing the street, go to your left and go to the end of the airport. The elevators are to the left of the Snack Bar. On the way to the elevators, you pass the standard airport things - stores, restaurants. Restrooms will be on your left before you get to the elevators. Take the elevator to level 2 of the airport and take the covered walkway over the road to towards the parking garage. The car rental desk is located at the first intersection you come to (I don't know how else to describe it - it is an intersection of covered walkways).

Locating the Rental Car Counters in Termini

The rental car counters are located next to the Upim department store and the post office. From inside the train station, walk along the tracks following the signs toward Terminal Fiumicino. Keep your eye on the distinctive yellow sign for the Posta (PT).

Termini Sign

Sign for Post Office and Car Rentals inside the Train Station

Just beyond the post office you will find the rental car companies. The glass door to enter that section of the station reads "Centro Diagnostico," designating an office upstairs. Don't let it confuse you; enter and walk through toward the post office.

If you are coming from outside the station, enter on the side of via Giolitti, but walk beyond the section of station that houses the UPIM department store.

Inside the station you will find the rental counters for the major companies - Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar, Sixt, Europcar, National, Maggiore. Smaller, local agencies such as Targarent Travelcar and Tirreno are also located here.

Villa Borghese
Locating the Rental Cars in the Villa Borghese garage

Borghese Gardens(Villa Borhese )top of Via Veneto

It is easiest if you have a taxi drop you off right inside the garage (the driver must go into the Villa Borghese parking lot and they give him a token to get out without paying).

If you are using public transit, you can access the parking structure from the Spagna metro station as well as from the top of via Veneto.

Be aware that there are very long corridors leading you to the underground garage, though; if you have a lot of luggage or mobility issues this will not be a good option for you. Follow the signs to the Villa Borghese and ParkSi. The entrance for the garage is located next to a gym (palestra).
